Tallest met mast (120 m) at Test Site Lelystad

August 2013 – The installation of the tallest met mast (120 m) in The Netherlands is completed. After a very smooth construction process, Ecofys WTTS completed the construction of its tallest mast to date: a 120 meter Meteorological Mast (MM01). Its main purpose is to provide meteorological data for testing of the Leitwind LWT101 wind turbine prototype. Ecofys WTTS performed the siting, the design, the contracting, installation of the critical data acquisition system and all commissioning works, to see the mast up and running ahead of schedule.

Similarly important, this mast is fully equipped with additional instrumentation at 3 heights (40, 80, 95, 120 m) to provide verification testing services for remote sensing devices like SoDARs and LiDARs. For this purpose, a dedicated test-pad has been designed and installed next to the mast, enabling safe, plug-and-play installation and power and network connection feeds to install up to 10 remote sensing machines in parallel. As of the beginning of this month, the first new machines have been welcomed already for verification at our site, and they’ve received a windy welcome!
