Complete test campaign providing quantitative traceability of performance to international standards. This full scale verification test cycle includes a significant number of wind speed bins and measurement heights, a detailed description of site, mast and measurement procedure, an extensive meteorological and statistical error analysis and compliance checks with manufacturers' specifications. This test is complemented by a sensitivity analysis on key meteorological parameters.

Typical duration of a classification test: 3 months.

LiDAR & SoDAR Validation/Verification

At Test Site Lelystad, The Netherlands, Ecofys WTTS offers state of the art validation and verification tests for LiDAR and SoDAR remote sensing systems. For this purpose a fully IEC-compliant 120 m tall mast is available with four measurement heights between 40 and 120 m (40, 80, 95 and 120 m).

Present remote sensing standards such as the (draft) IEC61400-12-1 ed. 2 prescribe regular equipment verification. Ecofys WTTS provides both this verification and the simpler validation tests using its 'plug-and-play' test pad, with over 45 validations & verifications performed since 2011. Ecofys WTTS does so, building on its own 14 years of experience in wind measurements using tall masts, SoDARs & LiDARs. Ecofys WTTS is ISO 9001 certified for its measurements and test site operation. Data quality is guaranteed through cooperation with our test site operating partner windtest grevenbroich. Ecofys WTTS can take care of everything from installation, testing, analysis and reporting. Daily quality checks are fully automated and provide the highest possible uptime & quality.

lidar-sodar-validation-verification-2Our 120 m mast, the tallest purpose build met mast in NW Europe, has an attractive open measurement sector to the West, with representative shear. Your machine will be tested against at least four measurement heights (wind speed). This enables smooth and realistic testing for your equipment. Upon request: due to the specific local circumstances at our Test Site Lelystad, we can also perform additional specific purpose tests, such as: testing before/after rotors (of interest for simple PV-curve validation) and testing near forest (of interest to determine accuracy of your machine in forested/high turbulence environments).

Premium Services

Specialized wind characteristics analysis

Ecofys WTTS’ engineers can carry out additional detailed analysis of local wind characteristics, such as:

  • Local features (e.g. strong wind shear, reverse flows),
  • Extreme events (e.g. gustiness),
  • Stability effects (e.g. low-level-jets)

The further analysis of these wind characteristics, provide valuable information that helps to perform with significant accuracy the wind resource assessment and site classification of your project.

For complex terrain, LiDAR can be used in combination with CFD software (e.g. WindSim).

Specific LiDAR tests

At Test Site Lelystad, due to the specific local circumstances, we can perform additional specific purpose tests, such as:

  • Testing before/after wind turbine’s rotor (Pv-curve validation)  
  • Testing accuracy in high turbulence environments (near forest)

A LiDAR validation test is a functional accuracy check of the remote sensing equipment performed against MEASNET certified reference anemometers: A short, inexpensive campaign to prove the machine’s readiness of comfortable operations in the field. The validation’s results are concluded from the statistical analysis of wind speed and wind direction measurements.

Verification and Validation

Present remote sensing standards prescribe regular equipment testing. This helps LiDAR owners or operators to verify if remote sensing equipment complies with the international standards and provides estimates of LiDAR’s uncertainty.

Ecofys WTTS provides validation and verification campaigns using ‘plug-and-play’ measurement test pads at the biggest onshore test site in Europe: Wind Turbine Test Site Lelystad in The Netherlands. The LiDARs are tested against one of our fully compliant MEASNET-compliant 80-120 m met masts. In order to achieve high quality and reliable testing, LiDARs are tested against at least 4 different measurement heights.

LiDAR & SoDAR Messungen

Die "Light Detection and Ranging" (LiDAR) Technologie ermöglicht die einfache und schnelle Erfassung aller Windcharakteristika bis zu 200 m Höhe mit hoher Genauigkeit.

Durch seine hohe Flexibilität ist ein LiDAR-System ein ideales Instrument, um Projektunsicherheiten mit einer relativ kurzen Messkampagne kostengünstig zu reduzieren. Der Einsatz eines LiDAR-Systems als Stand-Alone-Messung, ergänzend zu einer angrenzenden Mastmessung oder an mehreren Aufstellungsorten am projektierten Standort kann helfen, Unsicherheiten zu reduzieren und somit die Finanzierungsbedingungen für das Projekt zu verbessern. Ferner kann ein LiDAR auch bei Windparks im Betrieb eingesetzt werden, um die Performance des Energieertrags zu beurteilen.

Ecofys WTTS stellt sowohl komplette Windmesskampagnen mit eigenem Hardware-Equipment sowie einzelne Management-Services mit kundeneigenem LiDAR bereit.

Alle notwendigen Service-Maßnahmen werden im Rahmen eines Standard-Pakets angeboten. Dieses umfasst:

Ein täglicher Qualitätstest wird vollautomatisch durchgeführt, um eine größtmögliche Verfügbarkeit zu gewährleisten. Der abschließende Bericht wird in enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem Kunden erstellt und berücksichtigt gesonderte Anforderungen des Kunden und die spezifischen Bedingungen am Standort.

Eine LiDAR-Messkampagne kann normalerweise innerhalb weniger Wochen bereitgestellt werden, da keine Baugenehmigung erforderlich ist.
